Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), provides admission to students in two different sessions in a year: the January session and the July Session. As per the latest update, IGNOU admission 2024 starts its January session admission on 28 December 2023. And the last date to apply for January session process till January 31, 2024.  Applicants who wants to apply for any program at the any level in IGNOU, have to follow either online or offline mode.

 Criteria for Admission in IGNOU, 2024

 Candidates must complete the following requirements for admission to IGNOU:

  • Must have passed the 10+2 exam or its equivalent from a recognized board
  • Must be 18 years old at the time of admission
  • Must meet the program‘s specific eligibility requirements.

Documents Required for IGNOU Admission January 2024

Following are the list of the documents that are required for applying to IGNOU. Candidates must keep all their documents ready before applying for the exam. The documents which need to be uploaded with the examination form include signature, age proof, educational qualification certificates, and photographs. You might be asked to upload a scanned copy of your documents; therefore, you must be prepared with that.

  • Scanned copy of your recent photograph (less than 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of the signature (less than 100 KB)
  • Scanned copy of relevant educational qualifications (less than 200 KB)
  • Scanned copy of Age proof
  • Scanned copy of experience letter (if any )(less than 200 KB)
  • Credit Card/Debit Card/Net Banking Details for payment
  • Once submit the application form
  • Download the form for future reference

Apply Process for IGNOU Admission January, 2024

Indira Gandhi National Open University admission process for the January academic session will commence in two modes online and offline. Following are the steps which you can follow to apply for IGNOU admissions in January 2024 session. Students must note that they will have to complete the registration process along with the payment of fees before the due date. IGNOU requires a one-time registration fee of 200 INR from applicants seeking admission. The registration process shall be completed only after the payment of fees. The application fee depends on the courses you chose. For general UG, PG, Certificate, Diploma courses, the application Fee is INR 300.

 Interested students who want to apply for admission to IGNOU can go through the instruction provided below.

Step 1: Visit the official website of the university – https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/

Step-2: Tap on the link saying the “Click Here for New Registration” tab.

Step-3: You will get the registration form. You have to complete the registration form that is visible on the screen.

Step-4: Candidates must select the “Register” tab after completing all the fields in the IGNOU registration form 2023.

Step-5: Then, the user ID and password for the students will be sent to their registered email and mobile number.

Step-6: Students must now upload their documents, signatures and images in the specified format and size.

Step-7: Applying for admission requires a fee, which can be paid with a debit card, credit card, ATM card, UPI, or net banking. Select any payment mode and proceed with the payment of fees.

Step-8: Finally, press the “Submit” key. Take a few prints of the correctly completed IGNOU application form for your records.

Students must check that all the details provided by them are correct, along with their spellings. Also, they must keep their registration number and other details safe, as it will be required in the later stages.

IGNOU Offline Admission Process

Step 1: Visit the official site of IGNOU – https://ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/

Step 2: Download the application form from the prospectus

Step 3: Fill in all the details in the printed application form

Step 4: Submit the application form with all the documents to your regional center

In the end, the regional center will send the confirmation mail after the verification process

Note: There are very few regional centers that are accepting the offline application form.


  1. How many times IGNOU conducts the admission in a year?

IGNOU conducts admission twice a year. Once in January and second session starts in July.

  1. When I will become eligible for entrance examination for IGNOU admission?

A student who has completed the minimum required period of study becomes eligible for taking the examination. 

  1. What is the Fee of IGNOU Examination Form?

While filling the examination form for various subjects students are required to fill a form. IGNOU demands a fee of INR 60 per subject examination. Lastly, students can pay the total amount online or by visiting the IGNOU study center.

  1. Can an international student pursue IGNOU program from India? 

The international students residing in India can pursue IGNOU programs for which they need to submit their admission forms along with a copy of valid study visa for the minimum duration of the program, with the concerned Regional Centre and have to pay the fee applicable for international students for the Programme.

  1. How can I apply for a course in IGNOU?

 Candidates qualifying the eligibility criteria can apply both online and Offline by visiting the official IGNOU website. The admission fee can be paid online via credit/ debit card or net Banking. 

  1. How can I check IGNOU admission status?

Once applicants have successfully submitted the application form then it will be analyzed by IGNOU & if all the eligibility criteria are made fulfilled then a confirmation letter will be received by the applicants to their registered email address.

  1. Is it necessary to register before submitting IGNOU admission form Online?

Yes, students who are seeking admission to IGNOU in any program must register to IGNOU Online Admission System before students can submit their admission form online.

  1. Is there any entrance exam for admission to the IGNOU PhD program?

 A student who wants to get admission In PhD, they must have to appear in the entrance test conducted by the university.
